SAVANNAH, Ga. - Friday, May 8 the College of Consultors of the Diocese of Savannah confirmed the election of Rev. Daniel F. Firmin as the next diocesan administrator. The administrator will oversee the governance of the diocese until Pope Francis appoints the next bishop of the diocese. The previous Bishop of the Diocese of Savannah, now Diocese of Atlanta Archbishop Gregory J. Hartmayer OFM, Conv. was installed Wednesday.

In an email to the diocesan staff Firmin said of the appointment, “I am humbled and blessed to announce that they selected me. I will work with the College of Consultors closely as we all move into the next chapter for our diocese.

“Our work will be to prepare our offices in the best way for the new bishop.”

Firmin, the pastor at St. James the Less Church, Savannah, held the position of Vicar General prior to this appointment. He served in that role from July 2013 to May 6, 2020, Hartmayer’s last day as Bishop. Firmin has also served the diocese as chancellor. “It is an honor to represent, work with, and lead this staff of the pastoral center,” wrote Firmin. “I look forward to serving you, your people and ministries in this role.”
